The Longer Story
|
Although Billy Aaland-Parrish was born under the gleaming rays of the California sun, she grew up in the rainy hills of England. She returned to the United States to attend college where she would eventually major in Psychology with a minor in Nuclear Fission (or something like that.) Her fascination with photography started her senior year in college. She had a full semester of difficult psychology classes and needed a “fun class” to help break things up. So, she decided to take a photography class. She signed up for the class and began to learn the basics of photography and film development. She purchased her first SLR camera that year and rolls and rolls and rolls of 35mm film. Luckily, she and her husband, had the opportunity to travel a lot that year allowing her to practice in many different locations. Not feeling that photography would be anything more than a hobby she went on to graduate school earning a Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2004. She gained her Licensed Professional Counselor credentials and was licensed in 3 states. All the while, she continued to love taking pictures of both nature and people. She purchased her first Digital SLR camera in 2006 in preparation to take her husband to see the place where she grew up, England. Essentially they did the math and the rolls and rolls of film + the cost of developing said rolls of film would have been more expensive than a fancy new camera. At least this was the argument she used to convince her husband.
In 2007, Billy and aforementioned husband eventually put down some roots in Midland, Texas where Billy continued to practice counseling and they began a family. After birthing her 3rd child in 2012, they decided that a return to her counseling practice was not feasible, have you priced daycare for three children in Midland, Texas!! This gave Billy a chance to study photography at a higher level, so she convinced the three adorable children to become three adorable models and began to practice her craft...a lot. This led to the beginning of Parrish Photography. So here she is one husband, two college degrees, and three children later and she is living her dream of being a professional photographer.
